The Brightest Night
“Where prairie memory glows between beauty and unease.”
11" x 17"
Oil Pastel on Paper
"This piece marked the beginning of my exploration of fire as a subject. Inspired by memories of growing up on the prairies, the house and rolling landscape echo the farmyards, outbuildings, and open skies that shaped my childhood.
What interests me most about this image is its ambiguity. Some viewers see a brilliant prairie sunset, while others see a house threatened by fire. For me, it exists somewhere in between. A place where beauty, imagination, memory, and unease overlap.
Like many of my works, The Brightest Night is less about a specific place than an emotional landscape. It reflects the way childhood memories can become larger, stranger, and more magical with time."
