West Coast
“A landscape shaped by memory, melancholy, and new beginnings.”
48" x 60"
Acrylic, Ink & Mixed Media on Wood
"West Coast was painted shortly after I moved to Vancouver. I was excited by the possibilities of a new city, but I was also deeply homesick. I missed Calgary, my friends, and the life I had left behind. During that time, I listened repeatedly to Mozart’s Requiem, a musical composition written for the dead, and found comfort in its beauty and melancholy.
Painted entirely from imagination, this landscape became a way of processing that transition. The dripping clouds, shifting mountains, and luminous atmosphere reflect both the emotional weight of leaving one chapter behind and the uncertainty of beginning another. Created with acrylic, ink, and mixed media, the work feels dreamlike and intuitive, emerging more from feeling than observation.
Looking back, West Coast feels like a portrait of grief, change, and belonging. It captures a moment when I was learning that home can be both a place you leave and a place you are still becoming."
